FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
You Asked, We Answered
WHAT SIZE BLANKETS DO I NEED?
The right ones! We have a sizing chart on the tire blanket page with the right size for many popular tires. About 90% of our customer's orders can be accommodated in 3 major sizes of two depths, which makes ordering easy. Very large sizes or less common sizes that fall outside of our normal size blankets will need to be custom-sized. If you give us the make & model of the tires, we have manufacturer information on most tires and will do the math for you and develop new jigs and templates. All of our blankets are manufactured after ordering, so ordering right-sized custom blankets will not impact the shipping date of your order.

If you are ordering new blankets and think you may want to use them with different size tires, email us at rcxtireblankets@gmail.com to discuss fitament and options for various sizes. We'll often split the difference between tires, or optimize for one set of tires, but make them on the upper or lower tolerance to better fit the alternate sizes. Ultimately, they WILL work on just about any tire, they'll just work better on tires of similar size than, say, using a borrowed set of Small blankets on a C7 Corvette.

CAN I USE BLANKETS FROM ANOTHER CAR?
Absolutely! However, each set of our blankets is optimized for a particular size tire, and they will not work as well on tires much larger or small; you might find they're splayed and don't go the whole way to the ground, or are very loose and blow off easy.
OH NO, I RAN OVER MY BLANKETS! DID I RUIN THEM?
Unless you physically tore them, probably not. The insulation we use is surprisingly resilient, and damage is pretty rare from (very common) instances of forgetting and driving off with blankets still on the car, or someone else running over them in grid. Some of our customers have run over their blankets repeatedly with no apparent impact on performance.
WHY ARE YOUR BLANKETS DESIGNED LIKE THEY ARE?
Our primary design choices were inspired by watching our friends struggle to use MLS blankets on cars with fat Hoosiers and tight fenders. We designed our blankets with a thin and fairly stiff high-performance insulation encapsulated in a strong slippery nylon packcloth so that they could be easily slipped under the tight fenders common in higher preparation autocross classes. When we showed up to a local autocross with our first half-finished prototype and slipped it right on a DSP car with very tight fenders without having to jack the car up first, we sold three sets on the spot.

There are a lot of other design aspects that go into our tire blankets that you may not see. One notable aspect is that our blankets are not actually round, because mounted and loaded tires are not round, either; they're elongated egg-shapes taller on top than the sides, and compressed on the bottom. We take this deformation into account when designing templates for each size tire.
CAN YOU DO RUSH ORDERS FOR PROCRASTINATORS?
We recommend planning ahead. But we do try to accommodate rush-orders if we can! We can ship to hotel rooms, and can sometimes even arrange for last-minute hand delivery to events.  Regardless of when you order, please let us know when your next event(s) are so that we can ensure you get your order before you need it.
ARE YOUR BLANKETS PASSIVE OR ACTIVE?
RCX Tire Blankets are all passive insulative blankets, and permitted by most sanctioning bodies, including SCCA, for autocross and time trial. Our blankets do not have active heating elements, and work by holding in latent heat generated by tire hysteresis and heat soak from brakes and nearby engine and exhaust components.
